Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

The Dark Side of the Force Isn’t Actually Paved in Black In my observation of the Star Wars saga, I find striking parallels between its narrative and recent real-world events. The Evil Empire in the movies, led by the emperor and Darth Vader, is akin to the real rulers of our world today. The Resistance, represented by a small group of freedom fighters, mirrors the few who are courageously standing against overwhelming odds in our society. Unlike in Star Wars, where villains like Darth Vader are easily identifiable, the real villains in our world often disguise themselves as heroes. Figures like Dr. Fauci, Bill Gates, and organizations like the WEF and the UN, often celebrated as saviors, could be seen as the real-life counterparts of the Star Wars villains. This irony is evident as many who root for the freedom fighters in Star Wars may unknowingly support the real-world equivalent of the Evil Empire. The acquisition of the Star Wars franchise by the Walt Disney Corporation, which I describe as a “woke” company, suggests that the essence of the original Star Wars message may have been lost or altered under its stewardship.

Hour 2

Special Guest – Michael Boldin

The Unpredictable But Entirely Possible Events That Could Throw 2024 Into Turmoil As we approach the 2024 U.S. presidential election, we’re reminded that the unexpected can and often does happen. We’ve seen a global pandemic, a siege at the Capitol, and a reality TV star in the White House in recent years. So, what could be the next “Black Swan” event? We asked experts to imagine the unpredictable yet entirely plausible scenarios that could disrupt the 2024 campaign. Their responses ranged from a disrupted U.S. election due to cyberattacks, deep fakes, and mass unrest, to a surprise war with China over Taiwan, and even a message from outer space confirming extraterrestrial intelligence. Other possibilities include a digital apocalypse affecting the world’s banking system, global warming-induced havoc, a coup against Putin, and intensified abortion battles. These scenarios aren’t predictions, but they remind us of the fragility and unpredictability of our current global landscape.

‘Tip of the Iceberg’: At Least 309 Infections and 16 Escaped Pathogens Linked to Lab Accidents A new study published in The Lancet Microbe reveals a concerning trend: between 2000 and 2021, at least 16 pathogens reportedly escaped from research laboratories, and there were 309 instances of lab-acquired infections. This may only be the “tip of the iceberg” due to a lack of standard reporting requirements. The majority of these infections were caused by bacterial pathogens, with a few resulting in fatalities. The U.S. accounted for more than three-quarters of these infections. The study highlights several high-profile incidents, including a large-scale outbreak of Brucella in China and SARS lab escapes in Singapore and Taiwan. These findings raise significant concerns about the safety and security of high-level biosafety labs and the potential for future pandemics.

BPA, phthalates “widespread” in supermarket foods, regardless of packaging, Consumer Report says Contrary to popular belief, shopping organic and avoiding plastic food packaging doesn’t guarantee avoidance of harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates. A new study from Consumer Reports has found that these chemicals, linked to various health risks including diabetes and hormone disruption, are widespread in supermarket staples and fast foods. The study revealed that 99% of the tested foods contained phthalates, and 79% contained bisphenol A (BPA) or other bisphenols, regardless of their packaging, ingredients, or organic certification. Notably, Annie’s Organic Cheesy Ravioli, Del Monte sliced peaches, and Chicken of the Sea pink salmon had the highest levels of phthalates. This discovery challenges the assumption that plastic chemicals enter foods only through packaging, as they can also leach from processing equipment, contaminated water, and soil. Current regulations on the use of these chemicals in food packaging and processing are sparse and outdated, with many experts considering the existing thresholds for BPA and other phthalates insufficient to protect against potential health effects.

New Hampshire Bill Would End State Cooperation with CDC or WHO Mandates In New Hampshire, a bill has been filed in the House that proposes to end all state and local cooperation with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). House Bill 1156 (HB1156), filed by Rep. Michael Granger and seven cosponsors, is set for introduction on January 3, 2024. If passed, the CDC and WHO would have no jurisdiction in New Hampshire. The bill specifically prohibits the state and its political subdivisions from enforcing or collaborating with any requirements, mandates, recommendations, instructions, or guidance provided by either organization. This legislation would effectively stop the enforcement of CDC or WHO mandates in New Hampshire by ending all state and local cooperation. The legal basis for this action rests on the anti-commandeering doctrine, which asserts that the federal government cannot compel states to enforce federal regulatory programs. The bill will be officially introduced when the New Hampshire legislature convenes and will be referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs Committee for a hearing and vote.
