Dr. Hooker managed applied plant and fungal molecular biology research projects at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where systems biology researchers are focused on understanding gene and protein networks involved in individual cell signaling, communication between cells in communities, and cellular metabolic pathways.
In 1985, Dr. Hooker earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, California. He earned his Masters of Science degree in 1988 and his doctorate in 1990, both in biochemical engineering, from Washington State University, in Pullman, Washington. Brian Hooker has many accomplishments to his credit including: co-inventor for five patents, recipient of the Battelle Entrepreneurial Award in 2001, and a Federal Laboratory Consortium Recognition Award in 1999, for his work on “Reactive Transport in 3-Dimensions.” The breadth of Hooker’s 60 science and engineering papers have been published in internationally recognized, peer reviewed journals. He has a teenage son with autism and has been active in the autism community since 2002.
Polly Tommey is the mother of Billy Tommy, whose vaccine injury story is prominently featured in Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe. Following an MMR vaccination at 13 months, Billy suffered seizures and wasrushed to hospital. Doctors advised the Tommeys that Billy was having a reaction to his MMR vaccination, but would recover. FDA Warns Against Smelling Salts—Agency says products are being used as energy boosters The FDA has issued a warning against the growing use of smelling salts, or ammonia inhalants, which are increasingly marketed as energy boosters and athletic performance enhancers. Traditionally, smelling salts were used in first aid to revive individuals who had fainted or were unconscious, particularly in sports like boxing and hockey. However, their recent resurgence, especially through promotions on platforms like the Joe Rogan Experience, has raised concerns. The FDA has labeled these products as unapproved drugs, emphasizing that they require the same approval process as any other over-the-counter product. Reports have surfaced of adverse effects such as coughing, airway constriction, eye, nose, and throat irritation, as well as more severe reactions like seizures, migraines, vomiting, and fainting. Experts caution that the safety of these products is not well-established, and their use could pose significant health risks, especially for individuals with underlying neurological conditions. The FDA’s warning includes sending letters to companies like Skull Smash and Nose Slap, which have been marketing these products aggressively. The agency is urging consumers to avoid these products due to the potential dangers associated with their use, highlighting that the purported benefits of increased alertness and performance are not backed by scientific evidence. This action underscores the FDA’s broader concerns about the misbranding and misuse of products that could harm public health.
