Monday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

Do organic foods really offer better health benefits? A review published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined whether organic foods offer significant health benefits over conventional foods. While consuming organic foods is associated with reduced exposure to pesticides and lower risks of conditions like type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiometabolic diseases, the long-term effects on cancer risk and overall health remain unclear. For example, one study found a 25% lower risk of cancer among organic food consumers, particularly for breast cancer and lymphomas, but other studies showed little to no significant association between organic food intake and cancer risk. Organic foods are also linked to lower body mass index (BMI) and a reduced risk of obesity. Although organic diets provide certain health advantages, including lower pesticide residues and higher levels of beneficial nutrients, the study suggests that these benefits may partly result from healthier lifestyle choices by organic food consumers. The review calls for more controlled clinical trials to establish a causal link between organic food consumption and improved health outcomes.

Special Guest Jay Beeber

Jay Beeber, Executive Director of Policy at the National Motorists Association, is dedicated to protecting American drivers against the tyranny of the anti-car movement. Whether it’s the imposition of ridiculously low speed limits coupled with a proliferation of automated ticketing machines to penalize us for the simple act of driving, removal of travel lanes to back up traffic, a tax on every mile we drive, banning of internal combustion engines to eliminate our choice of vehicles, kill switches, congestion taxes and car-free zones, or a host of other schemes to get us out of our cars, the goal is the same – complete control over our freedom of movement. Beeber and the NMA are determined to win the war on cars because the alternative is too frightening to imagine: A world without the use of our personal automobiles, meaning a world without freedom.

Hour 2

UK police commissioner threatens to extradite, jail US citizens over online posts: ‘We’ll come after you’ London’s Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has warned that British authorities will seek to extradite and prosecute individuals, including Americans, for inciting violence through online posts. This comes in response to riots sparked by false rumors linking an asylum seeker to a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed event in the U.K. Rowley emphasized that those engaging in online hate speech and incitement are not protected by distance or nationality, stating, “Being a keyboard warrior does not make you safe from the law.” The British government has already been monitoring social media for harmful content related to the unrest, and the threat of extraditing U.S. citizens for violating British online speech laws has raised concerns among free speech advocates. Elon Musk, who criticized the U.K. government’s response to the riots, has been a vocal figure in the debate, comparing the situation to Soviet-era censorship. The warning underscores the growing tension between national security measures and free speech rights in an increasingly digital world.

Conflicts of interest taint the independence of EFSA Research by Testbiotech reveals that nearly half of the newly appointed experts on the European Food SafetyAuthority (EFSA) GMO Panel have significant ties to the industry, raising concerns about the panel’s ability to conduct independent risk assessments. Several panel members are involved in the development of genetically engineered plants and have worked with industry giants like Syngenta and Corteva. Five members have applied for patents on genetically modified organisms (GMOs), often in collaboration with companies. These conflicts of interest mirror previous concerns raised in 2012, where nearly half of EFSA’s experts had similar industry ties. Despite public pressure and calls for reform, the issue persists, with Testbiotech calling for the adoption of stricter regulations to prevent industry-affiliated individuals from participating in decision-making roles. The findings suggest that EFSA’s composition is skewed in favor of pro-GMO interests, which could bias risk assessments and harm public trust in the organization’s objectivity.

What counts as junk food in upcoming UK advert ban The UK government will implement new rules in October 2025 that ban online and TV advertising for junk food before 9 PM, aiming to combat childhood obesity. Foods classified as “less healthy” by a government scoring system based on their levels of salt, fat, sugar, and protein will be restricted. Categories of food affected include soft drinks, savory snacks, breakfast cereals, chocolates, sweets, ice cream, cakes, biscuits, pizzas, and ready meals. Exemptions include plain fruits, vegetables, and baby formula, among others. The policy builds on earlier measures like a 2009 rule that banned junk food ads during children’s programming and a 2016 sugar tax on soft drinks. The new regulations are part of ongoing efforts to reduce the high levels of obesity among children in England, where more than one in five are overweight or obese by the time they start primary school. Other countries, including Norway and Portugal, have implemented or are considering similar advertising restrictions.

The 12 Cinnamon Powders You Should Never Use A Consumer Reports investigation found that 12 out of 36 tested cinnamon powders and spice mixtures had dangerously high levels of lead, exceeding 1 part permillion (ppm). This poses significant health risks, particularly for children and pregnant women. Frequent consumption of just a quarter teaspoon of these contaminated products can exceed daily safe lead limits. The spices were tested from various brands, including well-known ones like Badia and smaller international brands. Some manufacturers have already started removing their high-lead products from the market, but the presence of lead in everyday spices raises broader concerns about food safety. Lead exposure can lead to serious health problems, including developmental delays in children, kidney damage, and reproductive issues in adults. Consumer Reports is urging the FDA to implement stricter regulations on heavy metal content in spices to protect public health. Until then, consumers are advised to choose brands with low or no detectable lead content.

Eating grasshoppers might improve your sleep, hair, and libido A study conducted by researchers at the University of Dschang in Cameroon reveals that a diet including edible grasshoppers, specifically Ruspolia nitidula, could significantly improve various health markers, including sleep quality, libido, and hair condition. The research, published in Food Science of Animal Products, compared rats on three different diets: grasshopper meal, traditional fishmeal, and a protein-deficient diet. Results showed that rats on the grasshopper diet slept longer, with an additional 12 hours of sleep per week, exhibited more frequent sexual behaviors, and had healthier hair quality, with over 94% of hair samples displaying ideal characteristics. Grasshopper-fed rats also maintained healthier body weights compared to the other groups. The researchers attributed these benefits to the grasshoppers’ rich nutritional content, particularly amino acids like methionine and cysteine, which support keratin production. This study highlights the potential for grasshopper-based diets as a sustainable and nutrient-dense alternative, with possible applications for human health.
