Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

What’s Driving Avian Influenza Virus Evolution? Human Food Systems The evolution of avian influenza, particularly the H5N1 virus, is significantly influenced by human food systems. The increased demand forcheap animal protein has led to intensive farming practices that involve large, genetically homogenous chicken populations with weakened immune systems, facilitating virus spread and mutation. High stocking densities and commercial feeds have led to increased foodborne pathogens and environmental contamination from poultry waste, exacerbating climate change and diminishing natural nutrient density in chicken meat. The avian influenza outbreaks have been rising since the 1990s, partly due to ineffective control measures and poor compensation for infected poultry culling, leading to a lack of trust in veterinary services. The large-scale outbreaks in poultry populations and subsequent mutations highlight the need for a systems approach that considers ecological, epidemiological, and social factors to develop more effective infectious disease prevention and control methods. Emphasizing resilient food systems that promote sustainable, nutrient-dense animal-source foods and reducing dependency on corporate-controlled food production is crucial for future pandemic prevention.

Taking a Daily Multivitamin May Not Help You Live Longer A comprehensive study involving nearly 400,000 U.S. adults over two decades found that taking daily multivitamins does not reduce mortality risk or improve health outcomes for chronic conditions such as heart disease and cancer. Conducted by the National Cancer Institute, the study revealed that multivitamin users had a slightly higher mortality risk than non-users. The research, published in JAMA Network Open, highlighted that despite their popularity, multivitamins do not offer significant health benefits for generally healthy individuals. Experts suggest that a balanced diet provides necessary nutrients for most people, and they recommend consulting healthcare providers before starting any supplements. The study controlled for various factors, including lifestyle and pre-existing conditions, to ensure accurate results. The findings align with previous research and recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which found little to no benefit in taking multivitamins. For individuals with specific health conditions, such as anemia or postmenopausal women, multivitamins may still be beneficial, but overall, they are not a substitute for a healthy diet.

How to Fix $1.6 Billion Long COVID Program: Experts Weigh In The National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched the RECOVER initiative in 2021 to research long COVID, but critics argue that the $1.6 billionprogram has made limited progress. Experts and patients highlight issues such as poor coordination, a focus on symptom management rather than underlying biological mechanisms, and insufficient clinical trials for potential treatments. Recommendations for improvement include forming an advisory board of top long COVID experts, shifting research focus to molecular-level studies, and increasing the number of clinical trials to test various treatments. The current approach relies heavily on observational studies, which do not test new treatments. Patients advocate for more trials on off-label medications that have shown promise in case studies but lack broader validation. The NIH’s emphasis on non-pharmaceutical treatments, like melatonin for sleep disturbances, has also faced criticism for not addressing the condition’s severity. While RECOVER has made some strides, including enrolling nearly 20,000 diverse patients and publishing multiple papers, experts stress the need for a more dynamic and responsive strategy to meet the urgent needs of millions suffering from long COVID.

Merging Pig with Soy Moolec, a startup, has developed a transgenic soybean named Piggy Sooy that incorporates pig genes to produce pig protein within the soybeans. This innovation, part of their Meat Replacement Program, aims to replace traditional meat products such as sausage and burgers. The USDA has approved these soybeans for planting and transport without requiring a permit. Despite the company’s claims that Piggy Sooy will help combat climate change and address global food security concerns, critics argue that such genetically modified organisms (GMOs) may pose significant health and environmental risks. The product exemplifies a growing trend in the food industry towards patented, corporate-controlled food sources, which critics say could further diminish food sovereignty and traditional agricultural practices. Concerns also linger about the lack of long-term health data on the consumption of such transgenic products and the potential for unforeseen ecological impacts due to horizontal gene transfer. This development reflects broader shifts in the global food landscape driven by technological innovation and corporate interests.

Special Guest – Doc Harmony!

My story begins with Christopher, my first-born son, who was diagnosed with an ear infection.  For the next six months, he repeatedly had ear infections and was given several rounds of antibiotics.  However, none of them worked. As a matter of fact, the last antibiotic he ever took caused him to vomit them up violently. At this point, I was angry, frustrated, scared and alone as a single mother (with Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance) and I thought, “enough is enough”.

I really had no idea where to go or what solutions were available. At the time, I was working on one of the top floors of Georgia Power (Southern Company) and I was on the fast track to success in Corporate America as I was one year away from finishing up my Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies with a minor in Economics.

Going to school, working full time and taking care of Christopher was tough but as I watched Christopher’s health decline, nothing else really matter.  Thank goodness I remembered Dr. James Berryhill!  He is a Naturopathic doctor that lives and works in Decatur, Georgia. I visited Dr. Berryhill and he recommended ear candles.  I was completely ignorant and had no information about these ‘things’.  I was very perplexed and thought it was an incredibly strange idea – “Stick a lit candle in my little boys ear?”.

But I was desperate and out of ideas.  I was determined not to let the doctors cajole me into another round of antibiotics that, clearly, were not working! So, I went and purchased ear candles from Rainbow Natural Foods in Decatur.  Boy, were they expensive at the time!  Christopher and I went home and I used 4 ear candles in the ear that was infected while we watched “The Little Mermaid” and he sucked on a red lollipop. (Remember, I knew nothing about natural health at this time!)

As I candled Christopher, I watched him become more and more relaxed, and the candles were definitely not hurting him.  The ear candles seemed to be providing him with relief and comfort.  It was pretty amazing yet mysterious to me.  I can attest that Christopher has never had an ear infection again.  Shortly after the ear candling session, Dr. Berryhill called me and was encouraging me to “make ear candles and sell them”. He promised to teach me what he knew as he had been trained at the Royal Academy of London. As a matter of fact, Dr. Berryhill, is part of the lineage to be the Queen’s doctor.  I laughed.  Seriously.  Around this time, I got married and had my second child, a beautiful, precious little girl.  And, at the same time, I pulled my back trying to learn how to golf (remember I was climbing the corporate ladder) and met Dr. Grant, a chiropractor.

During this pregnancy, I was very reluctant to go to the hospital due to my last experience with Christopher at the hospital.  Dr. Grant introduced me to Debbie Pully, a homebirth midwife and I birthed my healthy daughter at home.  It was wonderful and amazing!  I wouldn’t do it any other way and I highly recommend it.

My life was beginning to change dramatically and I could feel the pull of a new calling in life.  Ear Candles, Dr. Grant, and home birthing was quite the opposite of what my original career goals were – to become CEO of a multinational corporation!  But this new lifestyle was not compatible with working for an energy company.

I had already begun making ear candles in the home under Dr. Berryhills mentoring and I had been sharing them with other single moms, mothers and families that were in need.  What we all saw, experienced and observed was amazing!

Side Effects of GLP-1 Medications, Like Ozempic and Mounjaro, Could Result in Bone Density Loss: Study A study conducted by researchers from the University of Copenhagen has found that GLP-1medications, including Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, may lead to a reduction in bone mineral density, particularly when not combined with exercise. Published in JAMA Network Open, the study involved 195 participants who used the GLP-1 drug Victoza over at least a year. Results showed that those who took Victoza without engaging in regular exercise experienced a decrease in bone density in their hips and spine. The study highlights the importance of combining GLP-1 treatments with exercise to maintain bone health. These findings add to the growing list of concerns regarding the long-term use of GLP-1 medications, which are popular for both diabetes management and weight loss. Given the rising use of these drugs and the serious potential side effects like gastroparesis, there is an increasing number of lawsuits alleging that manufacturers failed to adequately warn users of these risks. The study underscores the need for more comprehensive warnings and further research into the safety of these widely used medications.
