Sunday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

In this week’s Sunday Conversation on The Robert Scott Bell Show, I’m joined by my dear friend and health freedom warrior Leslie Manookian for one of the most important updates we’ve ever covered. From courtrooms in San Francisco to the Statehouse in Boise, Leslie’s been burning the candle at both ends—but with good reason. She brings us breaking news on two major battles: the Idaho Medical Freedom Act and the LAUSD lawsuit that could reshape how medical mandates are handled nationwide. It’s been a long road, but Leslie’s tenacity is paying off in real-time victories.

We dive deep into the Idaho Medical Freedom Act, a bill two decades in the making that would prevent any business or institution—outside of a few narrow federal carve-outs—from mandating medical interventions as a condition for work or participation in public life. Leslie shares the highs and lows of getting this bill through both chambers of the Idaho legislature and the grassroots energy that’s demanding it get signed into law. As she says, this isn’t about right or left—it’s about bodily autonomy and the foundational right to say no. The story of Doug Cameron, paralyzed after a coerced jab, underscores just how personal and urgent this issue is.

The conversation then shifts to the legal showdown with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where Leslie’s Health Freedom Defense Fund is challenging the mandates that led to over 1,000 employees being fired or forced into unpaid leave. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is now weighing three major issues: the misuse of Jacobson v. Massachusetts as precedent, whether LAUSD can claim sovereign immunity, and whether their strategy of repealing mandates mid-lawsuit amounts to jurisdictional manipulation. The implications could be historic—not just for California, but for the nation.

Beyond the courtroom victories, we go philosophical and spiritual, asking: What happens to a nation when its people become willing tyrants, enforcing fear-driven policies on their neighbors? Leslie reflects on the heartbreak of watching Americans turn on one another and reminds us that the path back to sanity requires reclaiming individual liberty and responsibility. She shares her deep conviction that the true path forward is through decentralized action at the state and local levels, not by hoping a federal savior fixes everything.

We close with a renewed call to action—Leslie encourages everyone to support the Health Freedom Defense Fund and to stay vigilant and active in your own backyard. This episode is a powerful reminder that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction—but also never more than one generation from revival. And thanks to people like Leslie, that revival is already underway.

Testimony of Leslie Manookian on the Idaho Medical Freedom Act – Senate State Affairs Committee In her testimony before the Idaho Senate State Affairs Committee, Leslie Manookian advocates passionately for S-1023, the Idaho Medical Freedom Act, which aims to protect individuals from being coerced into medical interventions. Speaking from personal experience and constitutional conviction, she reflects on the restrictive mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic in Idaho and the personal and societal harms they caused. Manookian stresses that medical freedom is not a partisan issue but a deeply rooted constitutional and ethical right tied to bodily autonomy. Citing several Supreme Court cases—including Cruzan v. Missouri and Griswold v. Connecticut—she argues that the right to refuse medical treatment is a long-established liberty interest. The bill, she explains, would prohibit denial of employment, education, or public access based on medical status, except for federally funded institutions. Manookian warns against the dangers of medical coercion and references historical injustices such as Buck v. Bell to demonstrate how public health policy can become abusive. She underscores the importance of informed consent, invoking the Nuremberg Code and international bioethics declarations. Her testimony also includes a personal story about Doug Cameron, who was paralyzed by a COVID-19 shot he was pressured into taking and later fired. Manookian calls for Idaho to lead the nation by enshrining medical freedom in law, emphasizing that individual medical decisions must remain a sacred and inalienable human right in a truly free society.

Challenge to LAUSD Vaccine Mandate The Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF), alongside California Educators for Medical Freedom (CAEMF) and individual plaintiffs, is actively challengingthe Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all employees. The lawsuit argues that requiring COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment violates fundamental constitutional rights protected by the Fourteenth Amendment, including bodily integrity, personal autonomy, and the right to refuse medical treatment. The case has seen significant progress, including a notable legal victory in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which signaled judicial willingness to revisit precedents like Jacobson v. Massachusetts in the context of modern vaccine mandates. Although LAUSD rescinded its COVID-19 vaccine mandate in September 2023, HFDF maintains that the legal issues remain unresolved due to the precedent it sets and potential for reinstatement. The case emphasizes the principle that voluntary cessation of a policy does not render it moot if the government could reinstate it at any time. HFDF continues to pursue judicial review to establish broader protections against coerced medical interventions in employment settings, framing the case as a pivotal battle for medical freedom and civil liberties in the post-pandemic legal landscape.

Support – Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF) The Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF) invites supporters to contribute tax-deductible donations to further its mission of protecting medical freedom and bodily autonomy in the U.S. HFDF defends the ethical right of individuals to make informed decisions about their health, challenging coercive medical mandates through education, advocacy, and litigation at all government levels. Contributions support legal actions across the country to resist vaccine and mask mandates and other policies that HFDF argues infringe upon individual rights. Donors can give one-time, monthly, or annual gifts, and following donation, are encouraged to become HFDF members for an additional $10. Membership allows HFDF to gain legal standing in more states and represent individuals more broadly. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible under U.S. law. The platform provides a secure donation process and offers both digital and mail-in contribution options.
