Sunday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

In this special Father’s Day edition of The Robert Scott Bell Show, I’m joined by my good friend Dr. Ravi Kulasekere, PhD, for a truly profound and wide-ranging conversation that I know you’ll appreciate. We dive deep into the evolving landscape of fatherhood and parenting in our modern, technologically-driven world. Dr. Ravi shares his unique journey from Sri Lanka to America, contrasting his upbringing connected to nature with current society’s technological immersion. We explore how parenting methods must adapt, noting his own experience raising daughters of different ages in different eras, while always valuing appreciation over commercialism for Father’s Day. The discussion highlights the core role of a father as an educator, guiding children towards independence and self-care.

A significant portion of our discussion revolves around the intricate balance between technology and humanity. We acknowledge the amazing things technology allows, like reaching a wider audience for our show, but we also scrutinize its potential downsides, such as the spread of fake imagery and the concern that newer generations are becoming solely immersed in technological solutions. Dr. Ravi shares his concern about the decline in human connection, even in his home country of Sri Lanka, due to increased technological advancement. We caution against the “all or nothing” approach, emphasizing that while technology offers benefits, it should not replace human ingenuity, curiosity, or the crucial individual assessment in areas like health.

Our conversation extends into the realm of health, healing, and the philosophical divide in medicine. We critique the rise of chronic disease, linking it to modern societal advancements and the pollution of our food. We contrast the allopathic model with naturopathic and holistic approaches, particularly energy and frequency-based medicine like homeopathy, which Dr. Ravi highlights as a return to the origins of healing. While acknowledging the critical role of modern medicine for acute care, we stress that it falls short in addressing the complex, multi-dimensional nature of human well-being, which encompasses physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects.

In a particularly poignant segment, we pay tribute to our dear friend and colleague, the late Dr. Janet Levitin. We remember her as a truly kind person and a “fierce warrior” who made the difficult and courageous transition from an allopathic physician to a homeopath. Her unique journey exemplifies the profound shift in worldview required to move from conventional programming to a holistic understanding of health and healing. Her dedication to not harming children and her extensive work, including training people in homeopathy in Tanzania, leave behind a powerful legacy that we celebrate and appreciate.

Finally, we venture into some of the deeper, more philosophical and existential questions of life. We explore concepts like the continuity of life, the immortal soul versus the temporary physical body, and how Eastern philosophies offer a different perspective on death and grief compared to Western materialism. We also bravely tackle the sensitive topic of gender identity, comparing Western societal trends with the perspectives from Dr. Ravi’s home culture and emphasizing the importance of parental guidance in a world that can often seek to manipulate our children. This comprehensive discussion aims to inspire listeners to reflect on their own lives, seek balance, and remember that the power to heal is yours.
